XC Race

The Copper Peak Trails Fest XC Race is the flagship event of the weekend. There are Sport and Expert classes for different distances. The race starts at the base of Copper Peak runs down Copper Peak Road and up the access road to the summit of Copper Peak. From there you will descend down to the Black River and back up the nearly 500 feet of vertical to ride under the ski jump and descend again. Sport riders will ride the access road up and do one lap of the trail and Expert riders will ride the access road up and do three laps of the trail. Prizes are awarded in Expert for top three overall male and female plus age group winners and in the Sport for top overall male and female and age group winners.

When?

The Copper Peak Trails Fest XC Race will take place at 12:00pm on Saturday, September 9, 2023.

Where?

All races take place at Copper Peak with the start and finish in the parking lot area near the chalet at the base of the hill.

Who Can Enter?

The Copper Peak Trails Fest XC Race is open to racers of all ages. Racers will be broken down into mens, womens, and age groups for awards.

Prizes/Awards

All racers will receive a Copper Peak Trails Fest Race T-Shirt.

Top three finishers in both Sport and Expert in the following age groups will receive awards:

  • 12 and under
  • 13-17
  • 18-29
  • 30-39
  • 40-49
  • 50-59
  • 60-69
  • 70+

Race Course

The race will start and finish in the Copper Peak parking area at the base of the jump. Racers will begin heading south on Copper Peak Road and take the access road on the right for the initial climb up the hill. The course will then proceed along the Copper Peak trail and down the original downhill section past the start/finish. Following this the route follows the Copper Peak Trail Route with Sport riders completing this portion once and Expert riders completing it three times. The trail winds downhill and along the rapids of the Black River then climbing up nearly 500 feet of vertical to the summit of Copper Peak where you will once again head down the original downhill section toward the finish or your subsequent laps.

The Expert race is approximately 16.7 miles and the Sport race is approximately 8 miles.

Aid Stations

An aid station will be located near the top of the hill along the uphill route prior to reaching the summit. See below map for location. Water and snacks will also be available at the start/finish line.
